Goodness, I’m learning a lot about the internet over the last few weeks – including how easy it can be for people to take offence, including a few people on Twitter, while others have had issues with the picture of Tom Cruise used in an earlier post (a few Germans emailed me taking offence at using a pic of Tom due to his links with Scientology)
But something popped up the other day that we had a laugh at here, but it’s popped up in a few other places, so let’s knock it on the head before it becomes an urban myth. Laddieblog gave it a mention, www.2drams.com did too, The IslayBlog did a funny take on it (and may have perhaps revealed some top secret Whyte and Mackay bases in the process) and a few others did on Twitter too.
Basically, if you go and watch the third part of the whisky video I did with Colin Field from The Ritz Paris. At around 3:10 in the filming:
“Your whisky would be 60% Islay water” says Colin, the keen cocktail maker in the white coat, inferring the strength of the whisky is 40% ABV. “Yes that’s correct” confirms Richard. So as the mixologist adds Jura malt to the crushed mint in the glass he confirms once again: “I am putting 60% of your Islay water in to the cocktail” to which Richard hurriedly replies: “yes, yes.”
To which the internet has now taken to believing there’s a new ingredient in Jura.
So let’s put it to rest here and now: there isn’t. I thought Colin said “island” not “Islay”, nothing more than that. Watching it now, I see he’s said “Islay”, to which I have to say: “No, Colin you’re wrong.”
Of course, look at just before he says this. Can you blame me for hearing him wrongly with the amount of bloody ice that he’s throwing into the glasses? It’s a miracle I heard him at all.

I must say that post on http://www.islayblog.com was great. It is strange how things get out of hand so quickly on the net. That damn ice racket clanking up the soundwaves just proves that the white-tailed mess-makers must keep their gloves on… for there must be a round two. Richard was way to forgiving in the videos – you should have smacked him
By the way – I have a great style of having a dram planned that I’ll post here as soon as the video is ready.
Great stuff, indeed.
I just wonder, has anyone every actually seen Richard kill a man for holding his whisky “like this” or “like this”? I grow increasingly worried by the day…
Even with English not being my native language I was watching and told myself weird, knew it’ll get waves of rumors over the net without reason. It was clear it was mistaken how people chose to make of it something it wasn’t that I can’t understand.
