Of course we’ll have to wait and see what the implications are for the bottle being on the side like that – has the whisky reached the cork and perhaps partially eroded it? Has the ice and water got inside the whisky?

Such mysteries still to find out!

Good luck to the Force India lads today.

• David Coulthard. This is a good old fashioned Scottish blend full of guts but like David it has a distinct, intelligent charm about it.  This whisky has a lot to say for itself, both on the nose and the palate, and is best drunk in the café de Paris, mixed with just a dash of an energy drink.? …. Surely not !

• Lewis Hamilton. His blend is young and cheeky and would require some good insurance to cover its hefty price tag. With a nod towards Lewis’ faux pas in Australia this whiskies flavours would run rings around the tongue in an ‘ exuberant’ manner before knuckling down and getting to the job in hand.

• Jenson Button.  Quite simply his whisky is light and charming almost delicate to start with but make no mistake, it means business. Powerful, and full of body but with flirtatious top notes it’s guaranteed to be a firm favorite with the ladies.

• Michael Schumacher.  This blend is full of aged grain whiskies as they too are set to make a big comeback in the whisky world. With notes of peat smoke and sea spray this whisky isn’t afraid of a flavour collision to make it a championship winning drink.

• Ayrton Senna. This whisky is unique. Made with a selection of only the finest award winning aged malts and calling for every ounce of the blender’s skill, it is perfection in a glass. No mixer or water required, it should be drunk only with respect.

• Murray Walker. Probably the most quoted whisky of all. Fondly remembered by millions this blend is a frenzy of flavour, bursting with exuberance but always well balanced.

• Lee Mackenzie. Cool under pressure and easy on the eye like the BBC pundit herself.  The Mackenzie clan has strong historical associations with the finest of all Malt whiskies, the Dalmore, so it’s fitting that her blend contains more than a drop of this amber heaven. Her whisky is bold on the nose and easy on the palate but the quality within ensures it will always hold its own amongst the heavier whiskies, jostling for that all important exclusive (and Lee’s now a bit of a whisky expert after what I taught her).

Having done celebrity whiskies in the past, it was nice to get the chance to do these bottles for the drivers (Whyte & Mackay are sponsors of Force India) but I made sure they all got something a little bit different:

Paul Di Resta

I met Paul Di Resta at the press conference to announce his involvement with the team and I was lucky to spend some time with him afterwards in my sample room.

Having got to know him I have created a whisky that is a little shy at first on the nose but behind the shyness there is a full bodied explosion brought about by the highland malts I have used in this blend, giving it great strength and backbone.

This whisky has plenty of raw Scottish talent but also displays a sureness and maturity beyond its years. Strong and determined to make its mark on its own, this blend is a born winner.

Adrian Sutil

Adrian is clearly a strong willed and meticulous character who carefully plans his races to the last detail. However his skills as a concert pianist demonstrate another less well known side. That of the artist; creative, dramatic, passionate.

Instantly I was drawn to his bold character and for this blend I have selected whiskies as old as 25 years from the four distilling regions of Scotland.

Although this blend has a great complexity to it, a great harmony prevails with beautiful mellow flavours coming through to reward the palate.

Vitantonio Liuzzi

For Vitantonio I have created something which reflects his lively Italian personality and celebrates his first full season in the race seat. This blend is not one for sipping and savouring but is one for pure enjoyment and pleasure with the rest of the team.

Needing single malts with a little extra vibrancy, I called upon a great selection from Islay and Jura which were intricately woven together to allow the peat smoke to harmonise.

Patience and dedication was needed to bind and unite these malts together but the long awaited results are outstanding, proving that good things come to those who wait.

The team will be posting a few F1 items over the weekend here. If you’re into F1 this might get you going: it’s a look at the new-look Silverstone from the driving point of view.

Force India will also be quite active on Twitter.

And as this video from earlier in the year shows, there may be a secret ingredient in the fuel…

Some tips for David Cameron…

• David Cameron is a fan of our Jura single malt but in order to be successful he needs to behave like a blended whisky to ensure that all of the different component parts and personalities in his cabinet work together to create a perfect unison.
• I always get to know the whiskies that I put in my blends and David must do this with his government.  He needs to assess each individual’s strength’s, weaknesses, what they would bring to the party and determine how over powering they are as a rogue whisky can upset the balance and unravel the whole blend.
• I always let my malts and blends meet separately as a group before I introduce them to each other.  David needs to make sure his party works together and that all of the Conservative’s ‘ducks are in a row’ before he blends them with the Lib Dems.
• Whisky has warmth and although I have never met David personally I think this is a quality he displays when I see him with his wife.  He needs to project this warmth into his government and policies to win over Labour supporters.
• The Conservative Party are not so popular in Scotland and this is something they need to overcome.  I often find this the same with whisky as people tell me that they don’t like it and won’t drink it.  I tell them this is not true and after I educate them in an entertaining manner on how to appreciate a good whisky, I find that they can always be swayed.  Cameron shouldn’t loose heart and should work to show his opposition that he is a good leader by inspiring them and creating a smooth and solid Government.
• Whisky is popular over the world and this is something David should try to emulate.  Yes its right to get it spot on in your home country but remember that the world is watching and he needs to create policies that will not only benefit our country but make the world sit up and notice.  Whisky is popular in America and this is one place where David will need to make sure he has a strong alliance.
• Whilst we take great pride in our packaging for our whisky we always make sure the liquid stands up to scrutiny and public opinion. This is something we do very well at Whyte & Mackay as we constantly receive medals for our whiskies and we were voted the best blended whisky in the world by the IWSC.  The Conservative government need remember that their policies shouldn’t just look good on the face of it but actually have some substance and can stand up to public opinion and opposition scrutiny.

And a coalition offer to the whisky trade…

In the spirit of the new Government, if there’s any other blended whisky company out there who wants to get together and make something new, drop me a line and let’s see what we can come up with…

It’s a lovely whisky, a 12 year old Dalmore expression half aged in Oloroso sherry wood and half in American white oak casks, and as you can see from the pictures it’s in a beautiful package, which is only fair as it’s a beautiful whisky.

There was a bit of fun in creating the Dee Dram. We let people pick from six whiskies – Dalmore, Fettercairn, two from Jura, Uisge Beag and a special single Highland grain whisky. After the votes were counted, the Dalmore was chosen as the Dee Dram (the Press & Journal did a piece on the night).

Then it was unveiled on the Dee itself by Billy Connolly.

Among the work that the money will contribute towards is a £150,000 fish pass to be installed at the Culter Dam near Culter in the summer. The pass will help salmon and sea trout access more than 60 miles of river that has been closed to them for more than 100 years.

It will allow the introduction of migratory fish into the territory and produce a lot more fish for the river. Other important projects include planting native trees on the riverbanks and improving the habitat along tributaries to the River Dee. (Again, the Press and Journal has more on it.)

And it’s had some kind words said about it over at Whisky Magazine and elsewhere.

Some chancer tried to sell a bottle on eBay for £99 but you can get it for just £32 a bottle from Strachans of Aboyne (or the website) and from that, around £30 goes towards The River Dee Trust.

But you might want to be quick as it’s a limited run of 600 cases with only about 280 of them left.

As I told RadarOnline, there’s a set way to enjoy this:

Take the liquid and hold it up to your nose when it is full strength. Don’t be afraid to nose it more than once – you will find that each time your nose it, you discover more aromas and nuances.  Get to know the liquid.

Now pour some room temperature water into your glass to take the alcohol level down a bit. This will allow you to sip it without the burn associated with pure spirits.

Take a sip, swirl, hold the liquid on top of your tongue, under your tongue, hold your breath. Now swallow! Now breathe.

Remember to focus on the whisky and enjoy the art of the blend.
